The Carter School is a Boston Public School located on the border of Boston’s Lower Roxbury and South End neighborhoods. Ranging in age from 12 to 22, our students present with both severe, intensive disabilities and complex health needs. Due to these unique challenges, each classroom is comprised of five students, one teacher, and two teaching-assistants. Students also work one-on-one with a variety of therapists. This low ratio facilitates our staff’s ability to work closely with families, medical providers, and social services to cohesively create Individualized Educational Programs.
Families are guided through these educational programs with the support of our Parent Resource Coordinator and Social Worker. Two full-time nurses provide direct health care to our students, as well as facilitate the coordination of medical services.
In addition to our students’ daily curriculum, we supplement their educational experiences with school-wide events, inclusive district-wide programs, and community activities.
