Through consultation and collaboration, the Behavior Consultant helps the Carter Staff analyze how a student can best learn. We use the tools of Applied Behavior Analysis to break down tasks and collect data to effectively teach even the most basic components such as looking, smiling, reaching, and grasping. Across disciplines, we then assemble these components into more complex and functional sequences, always with the goal of increased independence. We find that interfering behaviors decrease as functional behaviors increase. Parents find their sons and daughters learn the building blocks of skills for increased independence.
