We recognize that activities of daily living (ADL) are a major component of an individual’s quality of life. Therefore, a major emphasis in our curriculum is on increasing our students’ participation in their ADL skills. Teachable moments occur naturally throughout our students’ days, allowing for optimal opportunities for them to practice these skills. We work diligently to help our students improve their skills in feeding, toileting (for those who are physically able), tooth-brushing, hand-washing, and dressing. Using a variety of adaptations and modifications, our students work on becoming as independent as possible in these activities. In addition, we work with families on carry over for the skills that are important at home. This consistency greatly increases what the students are able to achieve.
