Our students benefit from the services of the Student Support Office which is comprised of a bilingual (Spanish) social worker and a Family Support Liaison. The social worker provides practical and emotional support to families, while the family support liaison helps them gain access to community resources available for children with significant health care needs. They meet regularly with staff from public agencies responsible for providing services to our students (e.g. they work closely with the Massachusetts Department of Mental Retardation). They help unite families with our school creating the bridge that is integral to our students’ education.
Monthly Family Support meetings are organized and conducted by this office. These meetings are always designed around areas of interest to families based their needs and suggestions. Meetings can be formal with a guest speaker or informal where parents get to share their thoughts and ideas with other parents. All families are highly encouraged to attend. Examples of these meetings include: Sibling Night; Family Appreciation Night; Affinity Group Meetings where families who share specific interests get together; Caring for the Care Giver; and Emergency Planning.
