GROSS MOTOR DEVELOPMENT

Our student present with a variety of physical limitations that require specific opportunities to address their mobility. Our Physical Therapist (PT) is able to motivate our students to participate in exercises that are challenging and strenuous by designing activities that are fun and engaging. Examples include proper positioning to maximize learning and embedding range of motion into learning activities. The PT also works with families to help them understand how their children can become more fully integrated into their communities. Together, we all encourage our students to move to the best of their abilities.

In addition to physical therapy, our students participate in our Adaptive Physical Education (APE) program. Through the use of modified sporting equipment and games, our APE teacher grants access to athletic activities. Our students participate in games such as basketball, baseball, hockey, and bowling. Our APE teacher also provides weekly aquatic therapy and arranges our participation in Boston's Special Olympics.
